Via ferrata on the Dachstein

Via Ferrata – Ramsau am Dachstein

The cradle of via ferratas

Via ferratas have a long tradition here – the oldest via ferrata in the world leads up the Hohe Dachstein. Friedrich Simony requested a donation from the Höflingen in Bad Ischl to put an end to the “absurd and strenuous” climb up the Dachstein. The first via ferrata in the Alps, up to the Dachstein summit, was built in 1843.
The via ferratas “Anna” and “Johann” together with the “Schulteranstieg” form the “Dachstein Super Ferrata”, one of the longest and most challenging routes in the Alps at 1,200 meters in altitude. But fans of less challenging via ferratas will also get their money’s worth. With 33 via ferratas in all levels of difficulty, there is something for everyone.
